Anyone who visits Banpo Bridge, in South Korea's capital, Seoul, will surely be enchanted by its beauty. This bridge does look so beautiful at night, with its rainbow fountains that are so beautiful.
Banpo Grand Bridge or Banpo Daegyo is the main bridge in downtown Seoul, South Korea. Built on the Han River, it connects the Seocho and Yongsan areas.
The bridge, managed by the Seoul Metropolitan Hangang Project Headquarters, was built on January 11, 1980, and completed on June 25, 1982. It cost around 21,500,000 won. It is 1,495 m long with a deck width of 28 m.
The Banpo bridge was designed by Dae Han Consultants Company. The construction of the bridge is handed over to the Byucksan Engineering and Construction Company.
Banpo Bridge was built on top of Jamsu Bridge, creating a double deck bridge. It is the first double deck bridge in South Korea.
The Jamsu Bridge, completed in 1976, crosses the Han River, only a few meters above the water. This allows the bridge to sink when the river level rises in the rainy season.
Banpo Bridge is famous for its dancing rainbow fountain which is attached to Banpo Bridge. The dancing fountain project started in June 2007, and was inaugurated in April 2009.
The fountain system, named Moonlight Rainbow Fountain, is equipped with 38 water pumps, hundreds of nozzles and lights installed on both sides of the bridge.
The water is pumped directly from the Han River which is about 20 meters below the bridge. As much as 190 tons of water is sucked from the river every minute, and then ejected horizontally as far as 43 m.
A total of 380 nozzles and 10,000 LEDs were installed along the sides of the bridge up to 1,140 m. Accompanied by beautiful music, the fountain will dance, illuminated by hundreds of colorful lights that give the fountain an amazing color effect. Produces bursts of colorful water like a rainbow that looks so beautiful at night.
The dancing rainbow fountain show takes place daily, 5 to 6 times a day. The Moonlight Rainbow Fountain will play different shows during the day and night, lasting around 20 minutes.
The Moonlight Rainbow Fountain show is not performed all year round. The rainbow fountain attraction will usually start from May to October, every year.
Moonlight Rainbow Fountain was recorded in the Guinness Book of World Records on November 7, 2008 as the longest Bridge Fountain in the world.
