Slovenia is not only famous for its jewel-like Soca River. In this country there is also a beautiful lake with emerald green water.
This 1.45 sq km lake is known as Lake Bled. Located in northwestern Slovenia, in the region of the Julian Alps, in the Upper Carniolan region or Gorenjska, in Slovenian.
Lake Bled is also known as Blejsko Jezero in Slovenian, or Bleder See in German. However, the name Lake Bled is indeed much more popular in the world.
The lake which borders the city of Bled is formed from glacial and tectonic activity. It is 2,120 m long, 1,380 m wide, with a surface area of about 1.45 sq km. Lake Bled has a maximum depth of 97 feets, or 29.5 m.
Lake Bled has indeed been known for its beauty since centuries ago. Surrounded by mountains and verdant forests, a stark contrast to the emerald green lake water.
In the middle of Lake Bled there is an island with the same name, namely Bled Island. On this small island there is an ancient church building that was built in the late 17th century, and is still well maintained today.
Visitors can enjoy the beauty of Lake Bled by using a small wooden boat known as the pletna.
Emperor Henry 2 of the Holy Roman Empire even loved the beauty of Lake Bled, and decided to build a castle called Bled Castle in 1004 AD.
